A search was on for the Best Word Ever.
The rules were simple: The word had to be one from standard English grammar. The word didn’t have to be funny or long. It only had to be the Best Word Ever.
And the Winner Is…
I have a hard time disagreeing with that choice. diphthong is a great word.
I’m trying to teach myself Koine Greek – failing far more than Jayne and I ever failed during the years we took Italian courses and hired an in-home native Italian-speaking tutor twice a week – and diphthongs in Koine Greek actually are not that difficult. Yet, I stumble on those too from time to time.
So diphthongs probably mean more to me than to most reading this post.
To paraphrase Donald Knuth, “The definition of diphthong? I’ll leave that as an exercise for you the reader.”
(You don’t know who Donald Knuth is? Seriously? Wow. Well, if you want to know who he is, I won’t tell you. I’ll leave that as an exercise for you the reader.)
