Last night at church a dear friend showed me one way we take Scripture out of context – even when we dearly would never intend for anything like that to happen.
As Christians, we can find something in the Bible and develop an entire theology around that something.
That in and of itself is not bad. We should use the Bible to develop our theology.
The problem is, sometimes we will find a little sliver of a mention of something in Scripture and assume that that sliver, that briefest of mentions that may only occur once or twice in the tens of thousands of verses of Scripture, is enough to base an entire doctrine around.
Believers today simply use very little discernment in my opinion. I am sure I am the chief among you who does this. I would not do this if I knew where I was doing it.
I will relate to you a dear friend of mine who brought to me an issue last night at church where he built a doctrine around a specific event that happens twice in all of Scripture. This event is extremely specific and involves only two beings, the same two beings both times, and to say it applies to us today or at any time in history is stretching the point that God made.
Satan Doesn’t Have to Do as Much Any More
During church we were discussing the systematic destruction of America. The roots of the destruction of the greatest country in all of the world’s 6000 year history is obviously satanic but it’s not as though Satan has much to do with it any more.
The thing is, man’s heart is evil. There are many people today in America who need no prodding from Satan to continue the systematic destruction of America starting with the destruction of our youth in the government schools, using environmentalism lies as a force against freedom, and regulating and taxing American families into despair.
This dear man, whom I love dearly, has often come to me after church and said, “Have you read Job? Satan asked permission to harm Job. So I know that God only allows whatever sin that happens. So I’m not worried about anything. If destruction of our families comes, it is due to God’s Will. We know that from Job.”
Well, first let me say we do not know that from Job.
->We know only one thing from Job: Satan needs permission to harm specific men in specific ways….
…Man is never shown to need such permission.
There is another place in the Bible were Satan goes to God and gets permission to damage a specific person. Many believers do not understand that Jesus knew in advance that Peter would deny Him three times because Satan first went to God and got permission in Luke 22:31. Why God gave Satan this permission is something we don’t know the answer to.
But We do Know This…
We do know from these two examples, and these are the only two examples in all of Scripture, that when Satan wants to really get somebody specific, there are ground rules he must follow. One is to get permission from God.
Now you might think that God would never grant Satan this permission. I agree but we know God did. And we only see it twice. In tens of thousands of verses.
So the only things we know for certain from Job and Peter are:
- Twice in the Bible, Satan needed God’s permission in order to test to specific individuals. This was a giant test, big enough in both cases to get prominent mention in the Bible.
- Man is evil in his heart and hurts his fellow man constantly throughout Scripture. Man hurts fellow man constantly throughout the 6000 years of civilization on earth. Not one time in the Bible did man ever have to go to God and ask permission to harm another human being. Not. One. Time.
Therefore, I worry about the hearts of men. I worry about the evil destruction that those on the left have planned for America and have been fulfilling ever since the early 1900s and even before such as the development of the government school system that was designed from scratch, according to the designers’ own words, to separate children from the morals of their parents.
I Don’t Rest Easy But Remain Diligent
Unlike my dear friend, I do not rest easy because Satan had to get permission to make things bad for Job. I do not rest easy because Satan had to get permission to really test Peter.
Oh, I rest easy that Satan doesn’t have carte blanche to do this in general, but at the same time I do know that Satan and his minions are always able to influence the world in great ways, and they are able to influence believers although not in the same way that they can influence and possess unbelievers.
We, in the Body of Christ, are sealed with the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption. I strongly believe this means the demons cannot take over our bodies and control them. Let me add that I don’t think demon possession is extremely common today. It was extremely common in a very small percentage of the Bible, when Christ roamed the earth, which is why Satan and his forces were out in droves trying to stop the Messiah from offering the salvation of human beings.
But to say that demon possession is common today is to belie the Scriptures where very little is shown of this outside of the Gospels when Jesus roamed the earth. I want to make clear, I do believe it is possible today and may still occur but if it does, it is on a very small scale compared to what we saw in the Gospels.
Back To My Point
Using the examples of Job and Peter to fear no harm is taking the Bible out of context.
It seems as though man never needs permission to harm other people. Satan, when he specifically really wants to stir up things with someone who is Godly, seems to need that permission. I assume this is so Satan doesn’t just destroy all of us tonight before midnight. If he were able to he would, but he obviously doesn’t have the power or permission to do it that way.
So I take comfort in the fact that Satan does not have the freedom to harm all of us without permission as he did Job. But I do not take comfort in the fact that millions of people on earth want to harm and destroy the freedom that we have had in America, destruct American families, and especially eliminate all Christians.
I know our salvation rests in the Lord’s hands and of that I am not worried. So I have comfort in the final result.
But that doesn’t mean it will be fun getting there.
History says that 11 disciples, the men who walked with God literally on earth, in his human incarnate form, Jesus Christ, those 11 men, died horrible deaths (John died of old age, one out of 12 is not a good percentage that we should count on for ourselves). They would no doubt die those deaths all over again given what they have seen since in Heaven. Still, those 11 men died agonizing deaths and the people who put them to death, and who tortured them beforehand, certainly did not need permission from God to do those deeds. (I am not including Judas who died from his own hands. I am counting Matthias who replaced Judas.)
The people who want to see our destruction don’t need God’s permission either.
And they don’t have it!
Not one of the abortionists who murder 3,500 babies a day… not one has permission from God to murder those babies.
Yet they do it anyway.
God does not allow man’s sin. God does not condone man’s sin. God cannot and never would because to do so would violate His holy nature.
Man constantly violates His holy nature by the sins we do against others. If someone attacks your family tonight, they didn’t get permission from God to do it. So lock your doors and make sure you can protect your family. It is your job.
I believe it is prudent to do everything we can to protect our loved ones in this world.
I believe it is prudent to learn about the dangerous people, groups, and governments here and abroad who want to destroy us. I think it’s prudent to learn about those who want to wipe us out so that we can avoid as much destruction as possible, and fight to win. There is a spiritual battle going on all around us and many battles we see on Earth are direct results of those spiritual battles. It is our job as Christians to take up the armor of God and be a warrior for him. Not everyone is cut out for battle, physically, but everyone is spiritually able to fight the good fight.
Problem With Context
We need to take the Bible literally but take it as a whole first and foremost.
The United Nations goons who come with weapons to take away your family in the night will not need permission from God to do that. God would never give them permission. They will just do it if you are not diligent about protecting your family in all ways.
God is not absent, quite the opposite. But you must trust in Him, hide in Him, and give all worries and cares to Him. You are in His bosom if you are a believer. But that doesn’t keep you from getting mugged tomorrow. If God offered earthly bodily protection for all His people, then nobody would love Him but instead would use Him as their magic genie or only like a get-out-of-jail-free card.
Always prefer the real and only victory! If you and your family are saved, you will live eternally in heaven with Him! Praise God!
But getting there? He never promised us a rose garden. We only know for sure what He got and that was the thorns and not the roses in the garden.
Turns out, He is the Rose that we will get. But not until after the thorns do whatever destruction they can do to us on earth.
