We’ve seen that the lukewarm christian’s favorite verse is actually a quote from the adulterating, incestuous Gandhi, the diapered hindu.
We’ve seen Bible verses that show this cliché isn’t just a cliché but is wrong. Dangerously wrong.
How do you separate the sin from the sinner? The sin comes out of the heart. What precedes from a man is evil. We’re not saying go around and hate sinners, but we are saying stick with the Bible and stop throwing out cliches, especially cliches that have no basis in truth and that were coined by godless heathen.
Why Did Jesus Have to Die?
If it is so easy that you can separate the sin from the sinner, then why do you think God is powerless to do the same thing?
If God could remain holy and separate the sin from the sinner, He would and everybody would go to Heaven. The Cross was all for nothing.
You can’t make that distinction. God doesn’t.
Your Love is Hypocritical
Almost all who quote Gandhi’s favorite verse not in the Bible are pious. They often viciously yell that at Christians who are properly rebuking those in sin. The only bad Christian is a good Christian when lukewarm believers are in the room.
Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”
It is the kidnapper who is the problem, not the skin on his hands that picks up the kids.
But if you love to quote Gandhi as God’s Word, you need to understand a vital concept about your hypocritical love. Romans 12:9 warns, “Let love be without hypocrisy, abhor what is evil.” You can love hypocritically but we shouldn’t do that. If you go to homosexuals and just “love them” and never strongly rebuke them like their life is on the line if they don’t stop now, your love is hypocritical and your love is destroying them. You find it easier to ignore God’s Word than to do the right thing. Your love is actually hate for them.
You don’t love them enough to warn them.
On Judgment Day, a bunch of homos are going to look at you across the chasm and cry out, “Why didn’t you warn us???? Why were you too lazy to try to help us get saved? Why didn’t you make it more clear that we were lost deep in our sin???”
True, it’s the homo’s fault if he goes to hell, not yours. But if you use this cliché then you hurt his chances at repentance. You just helped love him straight to hell.
The church is stuck on the love-compassion side of evangelism. There’s another side and that’s when the wicked, especially when they encourage others like children… that’s when God shows us that He really hates them. And their deeds. (We’ve shown verses earlier in this series where God hates the wicked. You can keep reading Gandhi if you don’t want to know what God has to say.)
“Jesus Loves You” Evangelism isn’t in The Bible
“Jesus loves you” evangelism is not found in the Bible.
We read only about people using the law and sin to bring people to Christ. The “closest” verse is John 3:16 but it’s far from close because it brings the cross in immediately (“…that He gave His only begotten Son…”) and just two verses later we see condemnation.
And it’s complete, utter condemnation.
